Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

Statue of our Lady of Mt. Carmel in our chapel

The Rule St. Albert gave to the hermits who lived on Mount Carmel stated that they were to have a chapel dedicated to Mary, with the cells  arranged around it.  This is the origin of  the title "Our Lady of Mount Carmel."   Carmelites see Our Lady as the perfect disciple of Jesus, our sister and guiding light on the road of contemplation.  She lived in attentiveness to all God did in her life, as St. Luke tells us:
"Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart." (Lk 2:19).  She allowed herself to be formed by God's Word and presence in her life, and responded generously to all God asked of her.  We too seek to be open to God's Word to us in everyday life, to remain available to God as she was, ready for whatever he might ask of us.
